Experience
Duties:
I am the responsible inspector for the entire North Zone Complex at SAPREF site Durban. My
complex comprises of:
- Crude distillation unit,
- High vacuum unit,
- Hydro-desulpherizing unit
- Utilities,
- Propane de-asphalting unit,
- Furfural extraction unit,
- MDU/ MEK unit,
- Hydro treating unit,
- Hot oil system.
I assure the integrity of the plant is maintained via inspections and integrity assessments. I have
ample experience as an asset integrity inspector, and hold the following certifications:
- SAIW CWI (Level 1, 2 and international inspector)
- API 510 – pressure vessel inspector
- API 570 – piping inspector,
- API 577 – CWI,
- API 580 – RBI inspector,
- API 653 – Above ground storage tank inspector.
In my previous roles at SAPREF I was:
- The asset integrity program lead inspector,
- Senior inspector for storage tanks, piping and pressure equipment.
I bring with me a wealth of knowledge and understanding of international standards and
engineering know-how.
March 2017 to March 2019: Integrity projects lead inspector
Duties:
• Senior in-service inspector of piping, tankage and vessels.
• Conduct visual and NDT surveys in accordance with API 653/ EEMUA 159/
API570/ API 510 and Shell standards.
• Planning and execution of in-service inspections, targeting Corrosion Under
Insulation (CUI), Paint the refinery initiative, Corrosion review initiative and
external piping inspections throughout the refinery processes.
• Leading a large group of inspectors and NDT technicians to execute scoped and
planned work, establishing integrity of the equipment on site for integrity fitness.
• Implementing inspection strategies to target expected damage mechanisms within
the process.
• Enabling communications with Materials and Corrosion engineers and extending
inspection scope for further assessments.
• Reviewing all reports compiled by subordinate inspectors.
• Raising inspection recommendations and engaging with the unit engineers so that
the concern is resolved.
• Managing inspections on injection points in process piping throughout site.
• Responsible for a large team of inspectors and NDT technicians, ensuring no
time wastage and effectiveness in inspection programs.
