Probing Productivity Gains With A Complete PAUT Package

The field of non-destructive testing (NDT) is witnessing an increasing need for inspection methods that combine efficiency with accuracy. In response to this demand, phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) has emerged as a frontrunner, offering comprehensive inspections with advanced capabilities. PAUT has revolutionized the inspection landscape by providing precise assessments of materials and structures. It utilizes an array of ultrasonic probes to steer and focus sound waves, resulting in improved inspection coverage and enhanced data collection. This technology's versatility allows it to be applied across various industries such as aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, power generation, and manufacturing. PAUT's adaptability makes it an indispensable tool for ensuring the integrity and safety of critical components, welds, and structures in a wide range of applications. But if you’re here, you probably already know that...

Longitudinal Weld Inspection with Capture™ Software

Inspection of curved components such as longitudinal welds can be difficult using Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Total Focusing Method (TFM). For one, the curvature of the front surface implies using wedges adapted to ensure good coupling is obtained. The curved backwall also presents a challenge as ultrasonic waves will reflect off a convex surface making it difficult to define a proper scan plan. The instrument delay law calculator and imagery must consider these curvatures to send the acoustic energy in the right direction and reposition echoes correctly. In this blog, we present the various tools available with Capture™ data acquisition and analysis software to allow the inspection of longitudinal welds.

Assessing Buried Aviation Fuel Tanks for Fitness For Purpose

In the depths of World War II in 1941, amidst the turmoil and uncertainty, an aviation fuel storage tank dutifully served military and civilian purposes. This tank, designed in the fashion of British wartime storage tanks, held the lifeblood of aircraft, known as Avgas. Concealed beneath a carefully mounded earth and surrounded by lush grass, it evaded the prying eyes of enemy aircraft. Its robustness was fortified with a concrete lining, safeguarding the precious fuel within.
