Thermal Wave Imaging, Inc. (TWI) is dedicated exclusively to the advancement of Infrared Nondestructive Testing (NDT). Founded in 1993, we have established ourselves as the world leader in the development and commercialization of thermographic NDT, serving the aerospace, automotive, and power generation industries. Our primary mission is to provide our customers with complete, “real world” solutions that address the entire spectrum of technical, economic, and human factors requirements that are essential to today’s global industrial environment. Our systems have become the worldwide standard of excellence in thermography, and are used in the most demanding manufacturing, in-service and research applications.

The basic premise of thermographic NDT is simple – the flow of heat from the surface of a solid is affected by internal anomalies such as voids or inclusions. The use of light to heat the surface, and an infrared camera to detect changes in the surface temperature provides a powerful, yet versatile approach. Although other energy sources or detection methods may be used to attack a particular problem, the underlying principle remains the same. TWI researchers are well known in the international research community, and have been at the forefront of the development of the technology. TWI has made significant advances in extending the fundamental sensitivity and resolution that thermographic NDT can provide, and in working with customers to apply the technology to the most demanding inspection problems.
