Hello,
I am a 15 year construction laboratory manager veteran looking to move into NDT. My wife recently graduated nursing school and got a great job which is allowing me to go back to school so instead of pursue a totally new career I have decided to go back to school. I live in Tulsa, OK and there are 2 NDT schools in the area, Spartan College of Aeronautics and Tulsa Welding School. I am interested in hearing back from anyone that has gone to Spartan and what they think about the school. It is extremely expensive (24k/year) and I wanted to make sure I was making the right decision to go there.
It is 1 year long and teach all 5 NDT methods. According to them they qualify you to be able to reach Level II certification minus the actual work experience requirement. Another question I have is are there jobs out there for recent grads? I have 15 years experience as an inspector but its mostly rebar, concrete, asphalt, soils inspections. Some anchor bolts and rebar bend and pull testing as well but no NDT experience.
I really don't want to spend the money and backtrack my career, I make around 40k now and looking to make more. I do have a wife and kid though so I cannot move or travel all the time either.
Thanks for any advise.
