JT Alpha HD Video Borescope: Usability, Reliability and the Right Pricing
Posted:
In today's world of visual inspection and non-destructive testing equipment it takes something special for a new tool to stand out from the crowd. The newly released JT Alpha HD Joystick Type video borescope honourably coped with the task. As its name suggests, the new videoscope has a joystick type manipulator, which makes work so much more convenient. The joystick controls and operates the articulating probe tip, allowing it to bend at up to 170 degrees in each direction, with automatic reset to the upright position. However, articulation is not everything the JT Alpha joystick can do. It is equipped with a one touch button that triggers photo and video capturing. Alternatively, it is possible to capture image files using touch screen controls.

The touch screen feature is another detail that distinguishes the new piece of equipment from many other devices designed for the same application range. The high definition (1024x768) large 8'' touch screen delivers superb quality live image as well as crisp and clear captured photo and video files. The monitor comes with a thoughtfully designed "hands free" stand utilized to position it on a surface in order to monitor the inspection while inserting the probe or doing other types of work. Still images are stored in either .jpeg or .png format, while video files are saved in the popular .avi format. Files are saved on a high capacity 32Gb SD card, and the image processing software that comes with the unit allows to label, name, or delete the files with a click or two. The videoscope set includes a touch pen in order to make the interaction with a screen seamless. High-intensity LED illumination feature five grades of adjustment. All these details coupled with a built-in zoom make visualization and image capturing some of the strongest points of the new device.

The probes come in two most commonly used length options, 1.5m (4.9') and 3m (9.8'). The probe diameter is 6.5mm (0.25''), again a very popular choice. What really sets the probes apart from much of the rest is extra durable tungsten coating, protecting the most sensitive part of the tool from scratches, cuts and other physical damage. It is important to mention that the probes are waterproof (IP67).

Depending on the setting, a user has a choice between an AC power supply and rechargeable Li-ion batteries good for up to 3 hours of continuous use on a full charge. Other JT Alpha HD features include lightweight construction (2.3 kilos, or 5 lbs.), a shoulder strap, and a peli type case for convenient transportation. The designers of the unit made it a point to focus upon added reliability, robust, solid build and user friendly interface, all at a reasonable price. Apparently, they have reached their goal and delivered a tool destined for popularity.
